A quote written from a room size and a product name is a guess. The things that move the price are underneath: how flat the substrate is, what the old floor is glued to, whether a slab is still giving off moisture, and whether the panel subfloor meets the 3/4 inch minimum that nail-down hardwood needs. We check those on the visit and put each one on the quote as its own line. It makes our paperwork longer and our surprises rarer.
