Our Process

What happens after you send this

1

We reply within one business day

Usually with two or three questions about the existing floor and the building.

2

We book a measurement

Straightedge, moisture meter and a look under the existing floor where we can get at it.

3

You get the quote in writing

Itemized, with the warranty terms for your specific job written into it.

4

You decide

No deposit is taken and no materials are ordered until you say yes.

Where we work

Downtown Toronto and the waterfront, the York and St. Clair West corridor, and the East York pocket.

Before you get in touch

What should I have ready?

Room dimensions if you have them, what the existing floor is, what is under it if you know, and whether you are in a condo. A photo of the floor and one of the edge or threshold helps more than anything else.

How fast can you start?

That depends on the season and the scope. Tell us your deadline when you get in touch and we will tell you honestly whether it is workable rather than booking it and slipping.

Do you charge for the measurement?

No. The visit and the written quote are free and there is no obligation attached to either.

What the visit involves

Twenty minutes on site tells us more than an hour on the phone

The measurement visit is short and it is where the quote actually comes from. We run a straightedge across each room and mark where the floor drops away, because the tolerance for a floating floor is 3/16 of an inch over a 10-foot radius and a dip you cannot see will separate the joints inside two years. Over a concrete slab we take a moisture reading, since anything above 3 lbs per 1,000 square feet over 24 hours changes the adhesive, the barrier or the floor itself. Where we can get at an edge or a threshold we look at what the existing floor is fastened to and how thick it is. None of that can be done down a phone line, which is why the number you get before the visit is an estimate and the number after it is a quote.

What your written quote will show

Removal and disposal, separately

Priced at $1 to $2 per square foot for carpet, laminate or sheet vinyl, and $2 to $3 for tile, glued wood or a mortar bed.

Subfloor preparation, separately

Levelling compound at $2 to $4 per square foot, or a plywood overlay at $2 to $3, depending on what the straightedge and the subfloor thickness show.

Material and labour, separately

So you can supply your own material if you want to, and so you can see what changing product actually costs you.

Trim, transitions and stairs

Baseboard from $2.80 per linear foot, and stairs at $80 to $200 per step where they are part of the job.

The warranty terms for your job

Written against your substrate and the product chosen, rather than a blanket claim published on a website.

Rather talk it through first?

Call and describe the room, or run the numbers in the cost calculator before you book the measurement.
